BIKEPACKING · SIDE QUEST

I like riding my bike too far.

I started bikepacking in 2023 because normal bike rides were apparently not enough. Most trips are around Québec. One made it to Poland. I remember to start Strava most of the time.

THE RIDES

Plus a few I forgot to record.

The number comes from my Strava export after removing the rides that were obviously recorded twice. It is useful. It is not the whole story.

THE LONG ONES

My three longest recorded rides.

0171.49 km

Quick ride before ikea

September 20, 2024

The longest ride in the export. I apparently still called it a quick one.

0267.26 km

Riding with the boyz

June 27, 2026

Two bikes, a dock and a ride that was much longer than the title suggests.

0363.33 km

Fighting demons along the way

May 16, 2026

Four hours and twenty-two minutes moving. Five hours and fifty-six minutes elapsed.

I STOP A LOT

The photos are part of the ride.

For the four trips I could match cleanly to photo folders, Strava says I spent almost eight hours not moving. Food, ferries, views, fixing things. No regrets.

POLAND · SEPTEMBER 2023

One of them was not a Québec ride.

The Poland folder has mountains, food and six photos. It does not have a matching Strava activity. The distance is anybody’s guess.

NO STRAVA, STILL HAPPENED

Three folders without a matching ride.

The early one

I have the photos. I do not have the numbers.

The food stop

Also missing from Strava. At least I remembered lunch.

WHAT I PACK

Enough to get there. Usually.

This is not an authoritative packing guide. It is the stuff that normally makes it into my bags.

Repairs

The small things that stop a flat tire from ending the whole trip.

  • Spare tubes and a patch kit
  • Tire levers and a multitool
  • Mini pump
  • A few zip ties
Food and water

I would rather carry a little too much than spend the last hour thinking about a gas-station sandwich.

  • Two bottles of water
  • Something salty
  • Something sweet
  • One proper stop when I find it
Overnight stuff

Enough to sleep, get dry and start again in the morning.

  • Small tent
  • Sleeping bag and pad
  • Head torch
  • Dry socks, toothbrush and a small towel
  • Sunscreen. I do remember sometimes.

END OF THE RIDE

That’s everything I remembered to record.
